PRIMER SIGHT WORDS PLUS

The list contains 220 service words plus 95 high-frequency nouns. Edward William Dolch developed the list in the 1930s-40s by studying the most frequently occurring words in children’s books of that era. I am continuing to use it as my students are now distance learning. The Dolch Sight Words list is the most commonly used set of sight words.

The list covers words for Pre-Primer, Primer, First Grade, Second Grade, Third Grade, Fourth Grade, and Fifth Grade. Pre-primers also contain words that the children can sound out by using simple phonetic rules such as the five short vowels sounds and the silent “e” at the end of words spelled with a preceding long vowel sound followed by a consonant.This is a set of Sight Words (High-Frequency Words). It is the easiest leveled reader, containing words from the Dolch pre-primer sight word list (e.g., 40 frequently used words such as “the”, “said”, “and”, “for” and “it”). A pre-primer is a book written at a level for students who are usually in kindergarten and beginning first grade although today many preschool students are exposed to pre-primers, too.
